
A miniature traditional Newari lattice window, known as an Aankhi Jhyal (or eye-window).
The design features an incredibly intricate, geometric mesh pattern on the central shutters, flanked by heavily carved pillars and stylized floral borders with a multi-layered cornice top.
Historically, this architecture served a brilliant dual purpose in medieval Malla-era residential buildings and palaces: the dense lattice grid allowed fresh air and filtered sunlight to enter the home while completely shielding the inhabitants—particularly women—from the eyes of strangers on the street below.
